Administration

Committees whose main focus is the core functions of the Union, hold access to the bank accounts, and ensure the Union’s continued viability.

The Secretary

The Secretary administers the wider union, and ensures we meet legal requirements of the organisation. This includes managing the governing committee, composed of delegates and office bearers, and facilitating the monthly governing meeting. The Secretary are also a core representative of the Union in external communications such as with the government, other organisations, and the media.

  • Maintaining accurate membership lists and archives of Governing Committee

  • Providing quarterly and annual written reports to the membership
  • Producing the annual referendum ballot
  • Ensuring the production of a quarterly membership bulletin
  • Acting as Chair of the Governing Committee
  • Convening Governing Committee meetings and providing all members of the Governing Committee with a draft agenda no fewer than 7 days beforehand unlessthere are extenuating circumstances.

The Finance Committee

The RAHU Finance Committee oversees all finances for the union. They are responsible for providing an annual financial report for CAV, as well as regular financial reporting throughout the year.

The Membership Committee

The Membership Committee ensures the members are in good standing, and maintain accurate records of the Union members financial standing. This Officer has the power to grant three month dues forgiveness, and update membership.

Outreach

Committees whose focus is organising, amplifying the voice of the membership to the wider community, outreach to potential new members, and creative direction.

The Campaigns Committee

This Committee coordinates RAHU’s campaigns and building the union’s capacity through outreach, actions, and events.

The Communications Committee

The media and communications team handles RAHUs internal and external communications. RAHU’s external communications includes writing articles and media releases, as well as handling relations with the media and journalists. This also involves creating RAHUs annual and quarterly bulletin, as well as regular internal mail outs.

The Social Media Committee

The social media committee is responsible for our social media presence and posting schedule. This includes overseeing creating social media content, designing graphics, advertising, strategic planning for our presence, creating content and design guides.

Internal

Committees who focus on the internal upkeep of the Union, the support of the membership, and the development of tools to assist the Union.

The Operations Committee

This committee involves coordinating RAHUs software, tech and administrative services. A system administrator or software engineering background is encouraged.

The Renters Rights Team

The Renters Rights Committee helps facilitates case work administration. New Committee members do not require a technical knowledge of renters rights. The Officer supports the Renters Rights Committee with their general administration, so that the team can focus on helping members.

  • Respond to members enquiries on their rights, dealing with rent increases, bond claims etc
  • Supporting members to self advocate on current issues
  • Mutual aid visits to members who need support when dealing with agents and landlords

The Policy Committee

This Committee is the team for researching and writing policy papers expanding on RAHU demands and relevant issues, to assist with submissions, and backup actions by the Campaigns Committee.

The Inventory Committee

This role involves managing the RAHU Office in Carlton Victoria, merchandise orders, and ensuring the space is open on a regular basis for members to use.

  • Administrating the Union’s office spaces
  • Managing the Union’s merchandise and other physical assets
  • Maintaining accurate records of the Union’s inventory i.e. physical assets
  • Any delegated tasks from the Governing Committee.

Representation

Committees who represent, organise, and amplify the voice of groups within and outside the Union. These Committees are not ‘limited’ in action by relation to a specific cohort, but rather lead by that cohort. It is up to each committee to decide if they are open or closed groups to the wider union, but each must report to the Governing Committee and record minutes at regular meetings.

First Nations Committee

This Committee involves proactively organising Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander members, and ensuring their voice is represented within the Union, outreach to grow First Nations membership, organising, and up-skilling. This Committee has the power to vote to change where RAHU sends its Decolonisation Fund.

The Disability Committee

This committee involves proactively organising members with Disabilities, and Neurdivergent members, working to ensure their voice is represented within the Union, outreach to grow membership, working on accessibility, and up-skilling members.

The Queer Committee

This role involves proactively organising LGBTQIA+ members, and ensuring their voice is represented within the Union, outreach to grow membership, and up-skilling members.

The Public Housing Committee

This role involves organising members who live in non market housing, ensuring their voice is represented within the Union, outreach to grow membership, and up-skilling members.
