Renters Rights Support

What is the RRC?

The Renters Rights Committee (RRC) is a group in the Renters And Housing Union (RAHU) who support members to understand their rights and learn to self advocate. Unlike many other organisations, we are firmly on the side of Renters.

The Renters Rights Committee is made up of members of the union who volunteer our time to give advice on our rights as renters. Support is an act of solidarity by rank and file members. We are not lawyers and this is not a service.

You must join RAHU and be a financial member in order to enquire with the Renters Rights Committee as we only have capacity to support members at this time. We can help new members with existing issues within reason, but for issues outside of our capacity another service may be more appropriate.

PLEASE NOTE: Our Volunteer team are here to support members with self advocacy, advise on renters rights, and check rent increases. They are NOT emergency support, lawyers, or punching bags.

See our Resources page for more details.

What you need to know

  • You must be a member in good standing (paid up on your union dues)
  • You can contact them through the #renters-support channel on our Discord or by emailing [email protected]
  • We prioritise those who have been members for 3 months or more, however new members may be assisted if a RRC member chooses to do so
  • Support is an act of solidarity by members, not a service you pay for
  • While some support may come from lawyers, we do not hire lawyers or offer legal support
  • If we don’t have the skills to assist we will try to find a free service that can
  • With our support we have helped members with huge wins, from getting money back into renters pockets, minimising rental increases, and enforcing minimum standards
  • We try to get back to members within 48 hours, however as a volunteer team, there may be times where we take a few extra days to respond.
