RAHU Secretary Speaks with Jim Malo from The Age
On July 4, 2024, Renters And Housing Union Secretary, Harry Millward spoke with the Age’s, Jim Malo, calling on the Allan Government to enforce tougher regulations on landlords.
While rent increases had slowed in June of 2024, waiting for the market to self regulate puts renters at risk of mistreatment from landlords and real estate agencies. RAHU calls upon the Victorian State Government to enforce protections through the Residential Tenancies Act 1997.
“There needs to be regulation on how much rent can increase, there needs to be an increased share of non-market housing,” Millward said. “But if we’re looking for the first, fastest step that will make the biggest difference the fastest, the enforcement of the rules on the books would be that.”[1]
